Boating on Land (2024) is made at the Gardenship in Kearny, New Jersey. This place used to be The Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, a shipyard active from 1917 to 1948. Originally established during World War I to construct ships for the United States Shipping Board, this shipyard built merchant ships as part of the U.S. Government's Emergency Shipbuilding program and produced destroyers for the United States Navy during the World War II. The video documents the making and moving of a paper-folded boat on this specific site as a bodily response to the industrial, military, and climatic landscapes.
